Stephen Curry and Kia: MVP Talent

After Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors’ to the best regular season record in NBA history surpassing the great Chicago Bulls of the 90’s, it was no surprise to see him win the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

He joins only three other guards to have ever won back to back MVP awards alongside Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Steve Nash.  What was unique is he swept all 130 first place votes from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters in the United States and Canada, and a first place vote from the only Kia MVP fan vote.

Behind Curry, the reigning champion Warriors opened the season with 24 straight victories -- one of many NBA records they broke on their way to the all-time single-season wins mark. They set NBA records for single-season road victories (34) and consecutive home regular-season wins (54, including 18 to finish last season). Golden State also became the first team in NBA history to go an entire season without losing back-to-back games or losing to the same team twice.

In yet another NBA record, the Warriors made 1,077 three-pointers, becoming the first team with 1,000. Curry powered the attack with his 402 three-pointers, shattering his own single-season league record of 286 set last season -- an increase of 116. Along with leading the NBA in three-pointers made for the fourth season in a row, Curry extended his streak of regular-season games with a three-pointer to an active league record of 152 straight games.

The Winning Tradition Continues: Kia and the NBA

As has been customary as of late, Kia awards NBA players for winning certain awards and honors with a brand new version of a vehicle.  The good that comes from this goes well beyond an award.  This year the winner of the New Sorento was Lou Williams.  He won the NBA Sixth Man award.  To us, he won more than that.

The sixth man award is for the bench player that makes the biggest contribution to their team.  A substitute role for a player good enough to be a starter.  That is the epitome of Louis Williams of the Toronto Raptors.  Well after he won the award, he made a gesture that shows he is more than just a talented basketball player.  He asked Kia to send his Sorento to The Remix Project.  It is a Toronto & Chicago based organization that works to help young people from disadvantaged communities.  Lou finished the season averaging over 15 points coming off the bench.  He was the first Raptor to win any NBA award since 1999.  

Kia decided not to sit on the bench.  They plan on giving away a new Sorento to the charity of choice for all 5 winners of the NBA’s 2014-15 end of the year awards.  This is exactly what makes Kia such a special car company.  It isn’t about the publicity.  It is about doing the right thing.

2014 Kia Forte: A Worthy Competitor

This offering is a stylish and roomier than expected four door car that’s longer and wider than its predecessor.  It also offers features not normally found in this car segment.  For example you can add heated seats for front and rear passengers, heated steering wheel, door handle lights and a telematics/communications system that can help you find a parked forte in a crowded area.

Car of the Future is coming to Austin Texas

2014 Kia Forte is Amazing

Critics are raving and saying that this is the most fun car to come from any Korean automaker.  The new and improved build of the outer body gives a sportier look for this four-door model. This coup trumps the sedan with its base 173-horsepower and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.  This coupled with the six-speed manual transmission makes this a fun yet sporty compliment to the Kia line of cars.

2014 Kia Rio is a Must See

Expert test drivers agree, the 2014 Kia Rio has plenty of power.  They say the ride is soft enough to not be jarring over rough roads, yet firm enough to feel composed going through turns. The steering is well-controlled in low-speed parking lot situations and on the highway. It has no problems with highway merging or passing, and the optional automatic transmission shifts smoothly. All New Soul is a Big Step Up

Cadenza Tops Avalon on Consumer Reports List

It’s been a while since the well-known publication, Consumer Reports, tested and ranked the top large sedans on the market.  The last time they did the test was in 2007, and the Toyota Avalon was at the top of the list.

Since 2007 however, we’ve seen a shift in the automotive world.  Brands have changed their focus, and new vehicles have hit showroom floors.  Just in the large sedan segment newcomers like the Hyundai Azera and Kia Cadenza have made their way onto consumers shopping lists.

On Tuesday, Consumer Reports released their lists and the newcomer Azera and former champ Avalon found themselves staring at the tail end of the new for 2014, Kia Cadenza.

The Consumer Reports Magazine has been testing and analyzing consumer products since 1934 and has more than 8 million subscribers.  Jake Fisher, the director of automotive testing stated that “The Cadenza banishes any lingering thoughts that Kia is just a manufacturer of cheap, unrefined cars.  Pulling off that high score requires a long list of positives and very few faults.”

That’s certainly true, the brand has majorly shifted its focus and continues to make large leaps in manufacturing elegant, technologically rich, and reliable vehicles and doing so in an affordable fashion for the customer.

Are you ready for the 2014 Soul?

Now because of the popularity of the midsize sedan, there’s no shortage of options for consumers to choose from.  What is the best vehicle for your money?  Recently cars.com conducted a test and their analysis determined what the most affordable midsize sedan was.  For us at Capitol Kia, the results were not surprising.

The Kia Optima is one of Kia’s bestselling vehicles and for good reason.  The test conducted by cars.com analyzed cars with a certain level of content that most car shoppers desire.  All vehicles tested were of trim levels that included automatic transmissions, cruise control, USB, Bluetooth, Power windows and driver’s seat, and a backup camera.
